What if there were a way to solve our interconnected problems of environmental destruction, biodiversity and habitat losses, and global unemployment in a single united program? My proposal for a “Wild Economy” offers just such a solution. Originating with a thought experiment about buying an “insurance policy” for the Amazon, I have slowly developed a vision of a peaceful green economic revolution that can help economies the world over to thrive, especially under indigenous stewardship.

Understanding the subtleties of interconnection that exist in ecosystems, indigenous peoples are safeguarding over 80% of the worlds remaining biodiversity, usually without any assistance from governments or institutions. They face many challenges in doing so, but global financial instruments, properly deployed, could be of substantial assistance in redressing these significant problems. To this end, I sent a short letter to the office of the President of the World Bank.
